Iniziata all’Aja, nei Paesi Bassi, l’udienza della Corte internazionale di giustizia sul conflitto tra Hamas e Israele, scatenato ferocemente dopo gli attacchi terroristici del 7 ottobre

È iniziata oggi, giovedì 11 gennaio, la causa contro Israele per genocidio, presentata alla Corte internazionale di giustizia, il principale organo giudiziario delle Nazioni Unite, da parte del Sudafrica. «Gli atti e le omissioni di Israele rivestono carattere di genocidio perché accompagnano l’intento specifico di distruggere i palestinesi di Gaza in quanto parte del gruppo nazionale, razziale ed etnico più ampio dei palestinesi», sostiene il Paese africano.

Le risposte sono state variegate, dal supporto dell’accusa arrivato dal presidente brasiliano Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, alle opposizioni degli Stati Uniti e della Gran Bretagna. «Non penso che sia utile e nemmeno giusto – ha dichiarato David Cameron, ministro degli Esteri britannico-. Spetta ai tribunali definire il termine genocidio, non agli Stati. La nostra opinione è che Israele abbia il diritto di difendersi».

Per il presidente sudafricano Cyril Ramaphosa, del partito African National Congress di Nelson Mandela, si tratta invece di “una questione di principio”, paragonabile alla propria lotta contro l’apartheid.

Domani Israele dovrà difendersi dalle accuse. Secondo i giuristi, la Corte dell’Aja potrebbe «indurre Israele a consentire gli aiuti umanitari nella Striscia, avviare un’inchiesta indipendente o consentire ai palestinesi sfollati di tornare nel nord di Gaza».

In contemporanea all’udienza, simpatizzanti palestinesi e israeliani sono scesi in piazza per manifestare il proprio sostegno a una parte o all’altra del conflitto.
