Se l’11 settembre è passato alla Storia soprattutto per le Torri Gemelle, la stessa data segna un altro anniversario di grande importanza: quello del colpo di Stato avvenuto in Cile nel 1973, quando il generale Augusto Pinochet pese il potere rovesciando il presidente Salvador Allende. Si aprì una dittatura che durò fino al 1990, segnata da una dura repressione del dissenso e veri e propri crimini contro l’umanità, con l’uccisione di un numero di oppositori compreso tra le 1.200 e 3.200 persone, tra 80.000 e 600.000 internati, esiliati o arrestati in maniera arbitraria e tra 30.000 e 130.000 torturati e vittime di violenza.
