Ai nostri occhi di europei queste foto potrebbero risultare quantomeno bizzarre, ricordando un carnevale invece di una celebrazione religiosa; invece si tratta della festa del Corpus Domini – celebrata domenica 18 giugno, una settimana più tardi che da noi dunque – fuori della basilica di Santa Maria La Antigua nella capitale Panama.

Ad attirare l’attenzione sono soprattutto le grandi maschere che rappresentano il diavolo: ritorna quindi il tema, comune a tante culture e religioni – comprese quelle precolombiane, ancora presenti nell’America Latina spesso mischiate a quella cristiana – della lotta tra il bene e il male.
