Il premier britannico Boris Johnson ha ricevuto una fiducia risicata dal proprio partito conservatore nella votazione interna ai parlamentari che si è svolta in prossimità con la celebrazione dei 70 anni del regno della regina Elisabetta.

Come fa notare l’Ispi, Johnson «con 211 voti favorevoli e 148 contrari, ha ottenuto la maggioranza assoluta necessaria per rimanere in sella, ma con un partito profondamente spaccato e un’opinione pubblica sempre più contraria al suo operato». Nel 2019 Teresa May fu costretta a dimettersi pur avendo ricevuto nel 2018 un voto di fiducia più consistente di quello dell’attuale inquilino di Downing Street.

Il disamore popolare per Johnson sembra legato allo scandalo per le feste interne  organizzate dal suo governo durante il periodo di rigido confinamento in casa imposto nel Paese per impedire il diffondersi della pandemia. Ma il problema più serio riguarda la crescita del disagio sociale e l’aumento dell’inflazione oltre che l’annuncio della forzatura del patto sulla Brexit connessa con la questione nord irlandese.

L’eventuale caduta di Johnson sarebbe un danno per gli Usa di Biden che hanno trovato nel primo ministro britannico l’alleato più fedele nella linea interventista in Ucraina fino a prefigurare la prospettiva di andare oltre la fornitura di armi all’esercito di Kiev.

Un fattore interno al Regno Unito potrebbe perciò scatenare effetti a catena a livello internazionale.
