Continuano, a Londra, a Roma e in altre città, le manifestazioni contro l’estradizione di Julian Assange. Dopo anni di ricorsi contro la detenzione e le sentenze di estradizione dei tribunali londinesi, il fondatore di Wikileaks è in attesa della decisione finale che dovrebbe arrivare a giorni. In caso di consegna agli Usa, Assange rischia fino a 175 anni di carcere per l’accusa di spionaggio.

Amnesty afferma che una condanna avrebbe conseguenze devastanti per la libertà di stampa e per l’opinione pubblica, in quanto sarebbe un pericoloso precedente che mette il bavaglio ai giornalisti.

Il 23 marzo 2022 Julian ha sposato Stella Moris all’interno della prigione di alta sicurezza di Belmarsh, nel sud-est di Londra, dove è detenuto dal 2019. Precedentemente aveva trascorso sette anni all’interno dell’ambasciata ecuadoriana a Londra. (AP Photo/Alastair Grant)
