Il 15 ottobre dimostrazioni in tutto il mondo per la liberazione di Assange

Passano gli anni (di carcere per Assange), ma non si ferma nel mondo la protesta per la sua detenzione. Sul fondatore di WikiLeaks, incarcerato dal 2019 nella dura prigione inglese di Belmarsh, pendono 17 accuse di spionaggio (per aver diffuso informazioni segrete sugli Stati Uniti) e la prospettiva di finire i suoi giorni in un carcere Usa se la sua estradizione verrà confermata dai tribunali inglesi.

Dopo vari pronunciamenti (anche della Corte Suprema), a fine giugno i legali di Assange hanno presentato un nuovo ricorso contro l’estradizione, perché secondo la legge britannica questa non può essere concessa per motivi politici. A dicembre l’Alta Corte dovrà pronunciarsi in merito. Una ulteriore possibilità potrebbe essere il ricorso alla Corte Europea dei Diritti Umani. Qualcuno spera che il presidente Biden archivi le accuse.

In questa corsa contro il tempo per evitare l’estradizione negli Usa, il 15 ottobre si terranno in moltissime città del mondo (Italia compresa) 24 ore di protesta per chiedere la liberazione di Assange. In gioco non c’è solo la sua persona, ma anche la libertà di tutti i giornalisti investigativi del mondo.
