L’Ue come anima unita

«Accelerare la vaccinazione globale». Questa è una delle premesse emerse nel discorso della presidente della Commissione europea, Ursula von der Leyen, che si è tenuto mercoledì 15 settembre presso il Parlamento europeo, per valutare lo stato dell’Ue ed evidenziare le nuove sfide.

La presidente della Commissione europea, Ursula von der Leyen, ha mostrato soddisfazione riguardo ai risultati raggiunti nell’ultimo anno, specialmente nell’ambito della lotta contro la pandemia, e ha sottolineato l’importanza di aver agito insieme come Unione: «vedo una forte anima in tutto quello che facciamo». In particolare, ha ricordato che oltre il 70% della popolazione adulta europea è stata completamente vaccinata, e che l’Ue è stata l’unica a condividere la metà della sua produzione dei vaccini con il resto del mondo, principalmente con i Paesi più poveri.

Nella sala del Parlamento si trovava anche la sportiva paralimpica Bebe Vio, a cui la presidente ha fatto riferimento come esempio di tenacia, ispirazione e «spirito della prossima generazione dell’Europa». (Yves Herman, Pool via AP)
