Blinken in Italia nel segno dell’Alleanza atlantica

Il Segretario di Stato Antony J. Blinken è in Italia tra Roma e Matera, dal 27 al 29 giugno. Il Segretario ha incontrato o incontrerà il Presidente della Repubblica italiana Sergio Mattarella, il Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri Mario Draghi ed il Ministro degli Affari Esteri Luigi Di Maio per ribadire l’importanza delle relazioni transatlantiche e dei nostri forti rapporti bilaterali. Blinken co-presiede insieme al Ministro degli Esteri Di Maio la Riunione Ministeriale della Coalizione Globale per Sconfiggere l’ISIS (D-ISIS), per poi recarsi il 29 giugno a Matera per partecipare alla Riunione Ministeriale dei Ministri degli Affari Esteri del G20

Dopo il recente incontro del G7 in Cornovaglia e il vertice NATO a Ginevra, è importante seguire la tre giorni in Italia da parte del Segretario di Stato Usa Antony Blinken, visita che si conclude il 29 giugno 2021 nella suggestiva città di Matera, teatro della riunione dei ministri degli esteri del G20. L’apertura verso il nostro Paese si è palesata con la copresidenza italo statunitense Blinken Di Maio della riunione ministeriale della Coalizione Globale per Sconfiggere l’ISIS (D-ISIS).

Blinhen è naturalmente una figura chiave dell’amministrazione Biden. Nato nel 1962 a New York da una famiglia ebrea di origine ucraina, esprime una posizione che il New York Times definisce di “interventismo liberal” in politica estera. È stato, ad esempio, tra i più convinti sostenitori dell’intervento contro la Libia di Gheddafi nel 2011.

La tappa romana, oltre alla vista al papa e una visita esclusiva alla Cappella Sistina, ha permesso a Blinken di incontrare anche il nuovo ministro degli esteri israeliano Yaur Lapid con il quale ha toccato il delicato capitolo dei rapporti con l’Iran e il negoziato interrotto da Trump sull’accordo internazionale sul nucleare.

Per poter valutare l’importanza dei rapporti tra Italia e Stati Uniti, è significativa leggere la scheda preparata per l’occasione dall’Ambasciata Usa di via Veneto a Roma. Nel testo si esplicita la volontà di rafforzare «l’eccellente cooperazione tra i nostri due Paesi, sia come alleati nella NATO che come partner economici di lunga data».

«L’Italia è un alleato chiave della NATO, un leader e garante della sicurezza nella comunità internazionale ed un partner affidabile. L’Italia svolge un ruolo cruciale nel garantire la sicurezza transatlantica, in particolare nel fianco meridionale della NATO e attraverso la partecipazione alle missioni delle Nazioni Unite e della NATO in Iraq, Kosovo, Libano e Afghanistan. L’Italia svolge anche un ruolo importante nella promozione del sostegno internazionale per il progresso in Libia.

Le forze armate degli Stati Uniti sono presenti in cinque importanti basi militari in Italia, dove l’Italia ospita oltre 33.000 militari statunitensi, civili del Dipartimento della Difesa ed i loro familiari.

L’Italia ospita a Napoli il quartier generale della Sesta Flotta della U.S. Navy ed il Joint Force Command della NATO nella sede di Lago Patria vicino a Napoli.

«Gli Stati Uniti e l’Italia concordano sul fatto che insieme dobbiamo fare di più per affrontare le minacce condivise nella regione del Mediterraneo e nel resto del mondo».
