Nelle foto dell’agenzia Ap traspare il vivo confronto e dibattito nelle elezioni primarie per la carica di sindaco che a New York interessano anche il partito repubblicano oltre che i democratici che nella Grande Mela, come viene chiamata la metropoli statunitense, hanno una loro roccaforte.

Dopo l’italo americano Bill de Blasio, espressione dell’ala più a sinistra dei democrat, sembra che la nuova candidatura vincente sia quella di Eric Adams, ex poliziotto di colore proveniente da Brooklyn, con un programma incentrato al contrasto della criminalità organizzata.  In seconda posizione l’afroamericana Maya Villey, avvocata esperta nella difesa dei diritti umani, sostenuta dalla deputata Ocasio Cortez. Lo spoglio dei voti che decidono di fatto il nome del prossimo sindaco di New York si preannuncia tuttavia assai complicato per il sistema delle preferenze scelte dal partito che dichiarerà il nome del candidato entro il 12 luglio.

Anche l’ex presidente Donald Trump proviene da New York, e precisamente dal Queens, ed è stato in passato un elettore democratico. Nelle primarie del partito repubblicano sembra avercela fatta Curtis Sliwa, fondatore dell’associazione Guardian Angels, ong attiva nella prevenzione del crimine e conosciuta per l’uniforme rossa con caschetto militare. Sliwa, di ascendenza italo polacca,  non ha sostenuto Trump nelle ultime lezioni presidenziali.
