Grande attesa in Iran per la tredicesima elezione presidenziale prevista per il 18 giugno 2021.

Nella stessa data gli iraniani voteranno anche per le elezioni parlamentari di medio termine nonché per definire i componenti dei consigli islamici di città e villaggio.

Il Paese, governato da una repubblica islamica, ha 84 milioni di abitanti con una forte presenza di giovani ed p centrale per gli equilibri geopolitici mondiali e del Medio Oriente.

Secondo l’osservatorio sulla Sicurezza internazionale della Luiss, «Il tema che ha accomunato la campagna elettorale dei diversi candidati è l’economia, con un focus particolare su aumento dei prezzi, disoccupazione e crollo della moneta, alcuni dei problemi principali a cui deve far fronte il Paese. La valuta locale, il riyal, ha raggiunto minimi record negli ultimi quattro anni, perdendo circa l’800% del suo valore».
