Se come riportano i corrispondenti dagli Usa, i vertici del partito democratico sembrano ormai entrati nel panico per la crescita della candidatura di Bernie Sanders alle presidenziali del 2020, vuol dire che gli Stati Uniti continuano a sorprendere.

L’anziano senatore del Vermont, definito sbrigativamente “socialista”, è, in effetti, un socialdemocratico con alcune posizioni esplicite in termini di salute e istruzione pubblica, oltre che favorevole al ripristino del Glass Steagall Act, la legge che impone la distinzione tra attività bancarie ordinarie e speculative. Norma del 1933 rimossa durante la presidenza del democratico Bill Clinton.
Resta un mistero la longevità, negli Usa, della presenza di un politico, ebreo di New York, figlio di immigrati dall’Est Europa, contrario alla guerra in Vietnam come a quelle del Golfo.
Ambientalista dichiarato. Contrario anche alla pena di morte. Ha fatto pure il regista lavorando ad un documentario su Eugene Debs l’unico vero politico socialista, tra i fondatori del sindacato Iww, candidato alle presidenziali ad inizio del secolo scorso.

Tanti elementi che fanno propendere per la possibile alternativa escogitata all’ultimo momento dal suo stesso partito dove convivono diverse anime.
E lo stesso Trump non è certo di aiuto quando dice di fare il tifo per Sanders, come avversario facile da battere perchè “estremista”.

Tanti elementi per rendere molto interessante la campagna elettorale d’Oltreoceano che avrà il suo momento decisivo nel “super martedì” del 3 marzo, giorno di primarie per diversi stati, tra i quali California, Texas e Massachusetts.
