Fervono preparativi per i festeggiamenti che inaugureranno tra una settimana, il 25 gennaio, l’inizio dell’anno del topo, il primo dei segni dello zodiaco cinese. Sono 12 gli animali – ovvero il topo, il bue, la tigre, il coniglio, il drago, il serpente, il cavallo, la pecora, la scimmia, il gallo, il cane e il maiale – ma il topo è il più astuto. Secondo la tradizione, infatti, nel concorso indetto dall’imperatore di Giada per decidere quali animali dovessero far parte dello zodiaco, il topo chiese al bue di lasciarlo cavalcare sulla sua schiena per attraversare un fiume. Questi acconsentì alla richiesta, ma prima che il bue tagliasse il traguardo, il topo salto giù dalla schiena del bue vincendo così la gara e diventando il primo degli animali dello zodiaco.
