La nostra attenzione è presa dagli scenari di guerra del Medio Oriente e rischiamo di non vedere ciò che accade nel Paese organizzatore dei modiali di calcio del 2022, grande investitore nell’economia occidentale e in particolare in Italia. Ad esempio, i grattacieli di Porta Nuova, oltre 2 miliardi di euro, sono di proprietà del fondo Qatar Investment Authority (Qia) dal patrimonio stimato di 335 miliardi di euro.

Una qualche informazione ci arriva dal periodico della Cisl, Conquiste del lavoro, secondo cui «Il meccanismo di reclutamento del Qatar, che prevede la confisca dei passaporti ai lavoratori migranti, è stato ufficialmente abolito ma, secondo le organizzazioni internazionali, la nuova legge non cancella il sistema dei permessi in uscita dal paese e concede ai datori di lavoro un potere eccessivo nei confronti degli impiegati.

Oltre due milioni di migranti continuano, secondo la denuncia dell’Ituc (  Confederazione Internazionale dei Sindacati) ad essere alla mercé dei datori che possono ancora negare il permesso ai dipendenti di lasciare il Paese o cambiare lavoro. Le violazioni riguardano inoltre i diritti di associazione negati, le precarie condizioni di salute e sicurezza nei cantieri e negli affollati dormitori dove gli operai vengono solitamente stipati».
