Le foto Ap, del settembre 2019, sulla costruzione, in soli 5 anni, dell’aeroporto più grande del mondo, a Pechino, pongono una questione rimossa e cioè la potenza che può avere un modello di governo che non prevede dissensi e opinioni diverse che possono ostacolare la costruzione di opere colossali, dalle conseguenze imprevedibili .

Come insegnava lo storico Paolo Prodi, «le difficoltà delle nostre esportazioni, gli squilibri della crescita del PIL tra Cina ed Europa non sono soltanto riconducibili a problemi sul costo orario della mano d’opera o sul peso eccessivo del welfare state: è il costo della democrazia, delle libertà costituzionali, dei diritti soggettivi che può essere assolutamente incompatibile con un’idea di progresso mercatista e consumista che nulla ha a che fare con la nostra storia di uomini europei».
