Volano per la 44a volta nei cieli di Albuquerque, in New Mexico, mongolfiere di ogni fattezza. Per nove giorni le vivaci mattinate autunnali nella valle del Rio Grande creano uno scenario surreale, soprattutto durante le cosiddette “ascensioni di massa”, la più spettacolare esibizione di suoni e colori in tutta l’aviazione. Idirettori di lancio, noti anche come zebre per i loro abiti a strisce bianche e nere, fungono da poliziotti del traffico, coordinando il lancio in modo che i palloni lascino il campo in modo sicuro e coordinato. Se il tempo lo permette, i palloni iniziano a essere lanciati verso le 7:00 del mattino nei giorni di ascensione di massa, guidati da un pallone con la bandiera americana. (foto Ap)
