Il patrono d’Irlanda viene celebrato il 17 marzo per commemorare l’arrivo del cristianesimo durante il V sec. d.C., proprio grazie a Patrizio, al tempo vescovo in Irlanda. Ormai i festeggiamenti sono diffusi in tutto il mondo, specialmente nei luoghi di maggior immigrazione irlandese. Caratteristiche sono le parate a Dublino, Montreal, Chicago e Boston, mentre dal punto di vista gastronomico si preparano piatti tipici e bevande della cultura irlandese come la Guinness e il sidro.
