L’11 marzo del 2011 una scossa di magnitudo 9 provocò lo tsunami che danneggiò anche la centrale nucleare di Fukushima. Tra morti e dispersi si raggiunse la cifra di circa 20 mila persone, mentre a migliaia dovettero lasciare la propria casa.
