Amore incondizionato e giustizia sociale. Il debito all’agape nel pensiero di Martha C. Nussbaum

Nussbaum condemns anger in personal and political life. Many critics judge her proposal as more-than-human, distancing it from what is demanded by a purely earthly dimension, to which the philosopher appeals. The contradiction is partly explainable by the search for a project that crosses cultural boundaries, which is more complex to realize through principles of faith. Nevertheless, the perspective is deficient in its impermeability to any reference to a transcendent ulteriority. Nussbaum herself acknowledges that unconditional love and generosity are pervasive in the Judeo-Christian tradition, although often confused with forgiveness. The paper reflects on the limitations of Nussbaum’s proposal in light of a religious perspective.
